James A Marshall was founded in 1856 and is a leading UK manufacturer of shade cards and tailored sampling solutions. The business combines heritage craftsmanship with modern production technology to serve a range of premium manufacturers including textiles, leather, floor and wall coverings.
For nearly 170 years, the business was owned and operated by the Marshall family who have created long term, trusted relationships with suppliers, customers and employees alike. Nevis acquired a stake in the business in 2025 when Hamish Marshall (fourth generation of the Marshall family to operate the business) was looking for a partner to work with to develop the business and protect the family’s legacy.

At the time of investment, Svenja MacMillan joined the company to strengthen the management team. Svenja, who has a background in textile engineering and has worked in the clothing industry for over 15 years, will work with Hamish and Nevis to grow the business in the UK and overseas.
